Icardi Barolo DOCG Parej, 2020 Piedmont, Italy - 93 points Luca Maroni
We are fans of Icardi Barolo's which are often racy, alluring and incredibly appealing. Impressive Barolo from 3 different vineyards. Beautifully perfumed Barolo, combining red fruit of nebbiolo with its classic floral and spice dimension. The palate is broad and full, well-structured, deep and complex, with long, lingering finish. A genuine and satisfying mouthful of wine, drinking well now, or cellar into the '30s without concern.
La Palazettta Visconti Brunello di Montalcino DOCG, Tuscany, Italy -93 points James Suckling
Made with 100% organically grown Sangiovese grapes, this Brunello has an intense garnet red colour. The typical aromas of dark berries are complemented by hints of tobacco and chocolate as a result of barrel age of 4+ years. The tannins are firm, ripe, and well integrated. Great length in the finish. 2019 vintage in Montalcino were near ideal, with average temperatures and rainfall totals. As daytime conditions were not too hot during the summer and early autumn, ripening was even, and combined with cool nights, the grapes offered very good color as well as acidity. Producers are positive, with comments on the elegance and length in the wines. Predictions for these wines to offer excellent aging potential, with peak at 15-20 years, perhaps longer.
Cuevas de Arom Altas Parcelas 2021, Calatayud, ( High Altitude) Spain-92 Points Robert Parker
The wine formerly known as Arom has been renamed Altas Parcelas 2021 (High Plots). Sourced from high-altitude vineyards in the villages of Acered, Alarba, and Atea, it was fermented with 50% whole clusters and aged in concrete for 14 months. In 2021, a more precise harvest resulted in a wine that’s floral and expressive, with notes of orange peel. It’s juicy, elegant, and flavourful, with a focused, dry finish. Only 20,000 bottles were produced.
